SFSU Magazine - Spring / Summer 26’

The Spring/Summer 2026 issue of SF State Alumni Magazine was designed to celebrate the stories of San Francisco State University alumni whose work is shaping the Bay Area and beyond. The photography features iconic San Francisco locations—including the San Francisco Opera and City Hall—to create a strong sense of place and reinforce the university’s and our former Gators’ deep connection to the city.

The centerpiece of the issue is a feature on Sephora CEO Artemis Patrick, chronicling her journey from childhood adversity to San Francisco State University and ultimately to leading a Fortune 500 company. Surrounding features highlight alumni across business, the arts, education, and public service, showcasing the diversity and impact of the SF State community.

SFSU Magazine - Fall / Winter 25’

This issue of SF State Alumni Magazine reflects the continued maturation of the publication’s visual identity through a stronger emphasis on original photography and refined editorial design. A standout feature includes an original photo essay of San Francisco Poet Laureate Genny Lim at the iconic City Lights Bookstore, paired with thoughtfully commissioned illustrations by Gabi Tylenda. Together, these high-quality visual assets elevate the storytelling while reinforcing a more cohesive, sophisticated design language. The result is a publication with greater consistency, stronger editorial presence, and a distinctive visual style that continues to define the magazine’s evolution.

Since joining SFSU, I’ve led design and art direction for the university’s alumni magazine, guiding its evolution across the last three issues. Together, our team has reimagined the publication’s visual identity—introducing original photography and refined layouts that extend the magazine’s influence well beyond its pages. Each new issue has become an opportunity to elevate the product, resulting in a publication that truly connects with and reflects our academic community. In November 2025, the SF State Alumni Magazine received the CASE District VII Award for Design, recognizing this ongoing creative transformation.
